Bris-Story is hosting a Q&A panel discussion and cultural event as part of the upcoming Black History Month programme. This event will explore the music culture of the 1980s and its lasting impact on Bristol’s creative landscape, focusing particularly on the African African Caribbean lineage.

The evening honours the enduring contributions of early West Indian pioneers and Windrush settlers whose creativity, resilience, and community spirit helped shape modern British culture. Their influence played a vital role in creating Bristol’s rich multicultural environment, fostering a unique musical fusion that continues to resonate across generations.
The invited panelist will be drawing on their personal lived experiences and professional expertise, Reflecting on the people, communities, and movements that contributed to one of Bristol’s most influential musical eras:
Guest include: Gillian Beresford-Bernard (Bristol West Indian Dance Team/80s Promoter) Nathan Lewis (Breakdancer/E-Force), Ray Mighty (Smith & Mighty) & Leroy Murray (Soul Twins). Hosted by DJ Style.
To enrich the event experience, we have scheduled entertainment from two of Bristol’s iconic 80’s DJs for the After-Party: Donovan (City Rockas) & DJ Lynx (3PM).
